August 4th marked one year since Chance’s cancer diagnosis.
It also marked the moment we realized that being part of the Live Like Roo family was something we could not live without.
That experience taught me that having Live Like Roo’s support is something no pet parent should have to live without.
Not just for the financial support (which, in many cases, can be the difference between life and death) but even more so for the emotional support that helps you feel less alone.
We had planned to commemorate Live Like Roo with a special presentation at our event this coming weekend. With the event being postponed, we didn’t want to wait until the new date to show our gratitude.

But for now, in honor of one year since his cancer diagnosis, here’s a little nod to 8/4, in hopes that it helps a family who is walking through a cancer diagnosis with their best friend.

In April, we celebrated Chancey’s 10th birthday.
But July 10, 2016, was the day he was placed in my arms for the very first time.
Today is his Gotcha Day.
Today, we celebrate 10 years of walking through life together.
There have been so many challenges. So many difficult days. But there have been far more beautiful days than hard ones, and I will never take a single one of them for granted.
I truly believe that after last year’s cancer diagnosis, neither Chance nor I would be here today without the incredible support of the Live Like Roo Foundation.
Earlier this year, Chance beat cancer.
Now, just 13 days from today, on July 23, he’ll undergo biopsies under general anesthesia to determine whether we’re facing another cancer journey, almost exactly one year after we began the first one.
In honor of our fight, and in honor of this very special day, Chancey is making a donation to the Live Like Roo Foundation in the hope that another dog or cat parent facing a frightening biopsy can have at least one burden lifted from their shoulders: the cost of that procedure.
To everyone at Live Like Roo…thank you for caring for so many families during some of the hardest moments of our lives.
